Greetings,
Our last meeting was a culinary treat! It was our end of summer barbecue. We saw lots of new
faces and lots of familiar ones. It was great getting together. Special thanks go to Jerry
Napolitano who was our chef extraordinare. He cooked our tri-tip roasts, fish, potatoes and corn
to perfection. Thanks also go to Richard Somers for donating the fish we feasted on.
During the last meeting it was decided that we win enter into a joint venture with the Santa
Monica Bay Halibut Derby Youth Fishing Program which will be renamed the Greater Los
Angeles Youth Fishing Program. It will be equally sponsored by Santa Monica Halibut Derby
and Marina Del Rey Anglers. This will greatly expand our Kids Day Out Program and make this
type of event available to many more children. Thanks to Richard Somers and Ken Feldman for
their dedication to this program.
Our annual club Marlin tournament turned out to be a lot of fun but disappointing in that there
were no Marlin landed Everyone participating had a great time despite the Marlin choosing not
to cooperate. Jerry Napolitano again proved his cooking prowess aboard the Unreel with Bob
Godfrey. The catch of the weekend was without a doubt the two monster Yellowfin Tunas
landed aboard the Bait n Switch skippered by John Romanak. Also making a one day
appearance was the Big Mama with Ron Smothers at the helm. We spent the night anchored at
Santa Barbara Island where we dined on the Yellowfin Tuna.
Congratulations to Ron Smothers who faired far better in the Gold Cup by taking second place.
Way to go Ron!
We all should have received yearbooks by this time. Randy Sprout did a great job putting these
yearbooks together. He is our club Secretary and also handles the Fish of the Month awards on
an ongoing basis. We really appreciate all of his efforts and extend to him a Special "thank you".
This is the month we usually have a Battle of the Sexes Fishing contest, complete with a cash
jackpot. Anyone interested in helping to organize this event please contact me. This has always
been a lot of flirt and it would be a shame not to have one this year.
I hope to see you all at our October 14th meeting.
Good Fishing and Tight Lines,
Allen Ventura
