Halibut Derby Awards Passed out
Jim Lowry Memorial Trophy for the top MDRA Member in the Halibut Derby was awarded to Larry Silver. Here last years winner Greg Belda passes on the beautiful Halibut Trophy.

We had an expert speaker, Mr. Larry Wilkin, from Kodiak Marine Products and www.NexMar.com who told us about the technology and tips that will be of great help in understanding how to keep bait alive.
Healthy bait can be helped by paying attention to how much shock the bait is place under at the time it is placed into the tank. Try to avoid scale loss. Try to avoid any debris in the water that can clog the gills. If you are loading a large tank letting a little of the water off the bottom after getting loaded up so as to let out the ammonia leaden water at the bottom ( fish pee ).

All members in the MDR Anglers fishing club are now able to receive the many trophies that Southwest Anglers awards each year. We have been receiving the Buttons for years. This is a fine addition to the benefits of MDRA membership. Keep you eyes on the Full Scoop and the new Yearbook for details of the rules.
Note that you can get a Button using the Measurement method of weight estimating but you can not get the top Angler Trophies. If you win a Southwest Angler trophy they are awarded at their Annual Dinner held the last Friday in March at the Redondo Eagles Lodge. If is a great Fish Fry and a fun event.
Fish Of the Month
The Fish of the Month award to the top fish caught by a MDRA member in March goes to George Carvajal for a 22 pound Halibut caught on 8 pound line.
