Opening greeting and call to order by Bob Kissling
at 7:30 pm. Many new members were introduced. Some notables were
in attendance. One returning to membership is Mark Aguilar the past
owner of Purfields Pro Tackle. Ready to fish marlin and halibut and
look out Angler of the Year!
Then Paul Simon was able to give us a overview of
the White Seabass program and the Conservation Committee's work.
We have 3200 white seabass in our 2 pens at the moment. They are
approximately 5 inches in length. We have released 58,200 white
seabass so far.
Then our featured speaker of the night was introduced.
Mr. Kit McNear of Western Outdoor News was very informative as usual.
He shared graciously of his intimate knowledge of the local shoreline and
the habitat that we have to search for halibut. his many years of
fishing has given him insights into great tactics on halibut fishing.
He showed us his favorite tools for halibut fishing...

Saying you would not use a wedge on the putting green...
He emphasized using the right tool.
Having the choice of lots of products from lots of
sponsors as a professional in the field of fishing he has no limits on what
he can use. And the real tips on tackle come to good knots. Low
visibility line like the medium Blue or medium Green line. Very Sharp
bronze hooks are a must. Use a Swivel. Switch bait often.
Make sure there is no grass or weeds on your rig!

The details on what structure you find at many places
along our local coastline was spellbinding. The Halibut Derby
Fishermen that were at the meeting were given deep insights into spaces of
water that many would have just driven past.
Raffles this evening gave away a Rod/Reel combo, a handheld
radio and a new Penn 500 reel.
We ended at approximately 9 pm.
Good meeting.
