Here is Terry Rathbun, center, collecting his Prize, Airline tickets and Trophy.  Left is Jeff Morris who arranged for many of the big prizes.  On the right of Terry is Halibut Derby Co-Chair Mike Kassel.

Terry caught the winning fish in 50 feet of water off of the "twin towers" area late in the day on Saturday.  The skipper of the boat, Mark Greene, netted the fish.  They were on Mark's 24' Seaswirl named "Howz Beanz".  After getting it on board and having the fun of a big fish almost knocking him to the deck Mark turned to and raced to the weigh in just in time to beat closing of the docks on Saturday.

Terry who hails from Encino, was using an old 12# pound test Maxima line on an inexpensive Shakespeare reel.  He had tied on a #4 circle hook and a 2 oz. torpedo sinker with a drop loop.  Very basic halibut rig and the standard sardine.  The story goes that there where three really good runs and the drags were loosened to let it go and it went half way back down on two of the three big runs.  On the last time up the fish really did a lot of head shakes and put up a good fight.

Mark Greene was very pleased with the strength of the new Promar Net he got to use on the fish.  After he got the lunker over the rail he flopped hard enough to toss mark off balance.  The skipper would not admit to any bruises but he did say he was impressed with the strength of the fish and the Promar Net.

Terry and Mark are looking forward to their next big fishing adventure at Punta Colorada in Mexico for more great times.

Congratulations from all of us at Marina Del Rey Anglers.
