Hard working volunteers of 2002

The Halibut Derby runs thanks to the perseverance
of these fine dedicated people.

MDRA members and others show up each year and give of themselves in a lot of ways.  Some big and some small.  All of the help combines to produce a really great event and to do a lot of really great things for the community around us.

The Halibut derbies help support the many fishing and boating related businesses in Southern California area.  Bait Docks, Boat Repair Shops, Tackle Stores, and so much more.  The money raised has a strong and positive impact on the lives of young kids in the community who have an opportunity to go out on the ocean to fish that they otherwise may never have.  The environment benefits as we give back with more baby white sea bass and soon many baby halibut as well.

These people make it happen.

This is the crew at the Last Minute sign ups at the Boy Scout Sea Base.
They gave many long hours to sign up lots of competitors for 4 days.
Then they worked or fished the Derby for two more!

Paul and LaVerne doing the Data Entry.

Paul Simon, who runs the white sea bass grow out pens, and his wife LaVerne gave even more time to run the computer entry of every entrant into the datasheets needed to coordinate this large undertaking.  We give them a Special Thank You.

Here Ken Raymond (HD Chairman) shakes the hand of HD Derby entrant # 1066, our very last one,
while Ed Syp (Registration Coordinator) in the red flannel shirt, handles the registration forms.

Ed Syp, who is a rather new MDRA member, gave an extraordinary amount of time to handle the entrant registration of every one of the entry registrants.  This was a large undertaking.  Lots of accounting and details.  We give him an Extra Thank You.

And At the Awards party

John Romanak coordinated the Beer Stand!
John on Left with son Rex.

Many volunteers sold Raffle tickets.  Some Served Beer.  Some passed out fliers to tackle stores far and wide.  Some put up banners.  Some put fliers on car windows at the launch ramp every day for weeks.  Some called seeking donations many months in advance.  All of this came together for your fishing enjoyment and to benefit charity.

Thank you to all of you.  You know who you are.
