Tsunami Aid  MDRA Home Page

Jan 12 2005 the Marina Del Rey Anglers membership votes to substantially support aid to Tsunami Victims and especially to Fishermen in the hard hit areas.

In order to help fishermen get back to work or villages that may no longer have fishermen.  This is a vital part of their small communities’ economy and often a major food source.  And a long term health issue.

We are a very active sport fishing club.  We have the wherewithal to offer significant help to some of the hard hit Tsunami areas.  The membership voted last night at our meeting to donate to the relief efforts. We have a 30 year history of helping the community.

We reviewed the idea of shipping over fishing gear that would enable a village to get back to fishing and feeding it’s self.  If all of the fishermen in an area were lost in the village we want to help them train new fisherman. We are working to fill a container with boxes of packaged gear for each delivery point.  We are also thinking that small fishing boats can be sent as well.

The cost for shipping is great and we may send items not needed or wanted.

Some of our membership is exploring the possibly travel to the area and help with the distribution etc.
